Wow.. Our little guy is here!! It was quite a long road to get him here but I better write this all down so I don't forget it all. My doctors recommended a while back that we deliver the baby at 37weeks because he was measuring big but that we would need to do an amniocentesis a day or so before to make sure his lungs would be mature.
We had this done on Monday the 27th but ended up having to do it in the hospital because the doctor in the office didn't feel comfortable doing it there. Waited all that day and half of Tuesday but did find out his lungs were ok and we could deliver on Wednesday!
SO, we showed up at Banner Desert on Wednesday morning at eight and finally got hooked up to the pitocin around noon.. I was feeling good and starting to have some contractions and then the doctor came and said "let's break your water!" I figured this little man would get here super fast!! Boy was I wrong!! I continued to labor for the next few hours until I knew I needed the epidural.. I asked for it but since my platelet counts have been low the doctor wanted to check them before placing the epidural. This particular doctors "cut off" line for a platelet count that was too low was 75,000. Earlier my cout had been about 86,000 so I figured we would be good there... Wrong again! The nurse came in the room with the second lab draw and said she was so sorry but my count was right at 75,000 and the doctor didn't feel comfortable doing the epidural. I cried a lot while trying to breathe through contractions. Bless my moms heart for helping me breathe. I had lots of support from her and Jaron and Kelsey and my dad but I was completely miserable!! God bless you women that do that naturally!! They were giving me pain meds but it wasn't doing anything for my pain and by the time 18 hours of labor came around I had nothing left and I begged the nurses to re-check my platelets And see If an epidural was at all possible. Thank goodness I was right for asking for that because my platelets went up to 76,000 and the doc put in the epidural... Instant relief!! We all got some sleep and the pitocin got turned up but by the next morning I had only progressed to a nine and was not moving past that despite the Pitocin being turned up.
I also started spiking a fever and things just seemed to be taking a turn for the worse and it looked more and more like having him naturally was just not going to happen. The doctor came and talked to us and said that he would be ok with us trying for another hour or two to see if I would dilate to a ten or he would be ok doing a C-Section at that point too, especially with me having a fever. After talking about it for a little bit, we decided that we had gone long enough with no progress and worrying about the fever, decided it was best to have the C-Section. After we told the doctor that, they had me in the OR in about an hour.
Everything went fine in surgery (except me throwing up a couple times...) and Garrison Edward Foy was born at 11:24 am. He came out screaming and crying but after being assessed by the nursing staff was grunting and kinda having a hard time breathing so they rushed him up to the NICU and put him on a CPAP (a machine to help him breathe) and started him on IV antibiotics as well as me since we both had fevers. They figured I had an infection in my uterus because I had my water broken so early in the game.
Garrison was able to come off the CPAP that night and continued to make progress every day. He ended up having to stay in the NICU to finish a 7 day course of antibiotics. He had a hard time eating enough in the beginning also, but he has truly just amazed all of us and in a week's time is a very healthy strong good boy!
WE finally got to bring him home last night and it has been awesome ever since. It was seriously one of the hardest things I have ever done having to leave my son at the hospital every night after I was discharged from the hospital. I feel like life can begin now with our little boy! He is just awesome and wakes up about every 2 hours to eat but other than that is a little angel. I feel so blessed that God let us have this little boy. Can't imagine life without him now! sorry about the really long post. but I will finish with some pictures!
